Mexican architecture magazine launches edition for tablets

Mexican architecture magazine Arquine has announced the launch of an interactive version for the iPad and other tablet computers, billing it as the first of its kind in Latin America.

“There’s no (architecture) magazine in Latin America that has a digital version. Many have Web pages that function as blogs, which is what we’ve had since 2007, but … Arquine is a pioneer in this version,” architect Andrea Griborio told Efe.

Arquine will present this new application in Mexico City on June 7, a launch that coincides with the celebration of the magazine’s 15th anniversary and which is aimed at disseminating architectural knowledge and insight via new media.

The application will be formally unveiled in a “Jam” session, or roundtable discussion, that will analyze the significance and scope of the various platforms for disseminating an architectural culture and bringing together and linking architecture, design and all that relates to the city.

Arquine’s goal is to reach its audience - whether already established or not - in a more accessible way, Griborio said.

The new interactive platform is based on the print version of the magazine, which has been in circulation for 15 years in several Latin American countries, Europe and the United States.

The Ponce House

The Ponce House is located in La Palma, Tabasco, Mexico, a site of approximately three hectares and is part of group of buildings that make up the “Fifth Mother Ali”, which harbored a group of 4 houses , pool area with “palapa”, a small chapel area games and a ballroom enter other things.

The project is developed through the design of two bodies that house the entire program to comply. The main volume is divided by a corridor of 3.75 meters extending the entire length of the house setting rooms near the northeast side. This same body defines the area northwest of services that make up the kitchen, patio and room service.

The body houses the remaining spaces in the northeast are located the living room which is defined by a rectangular space extending from the main body.

In the northwest lies the parking for three cars and the extension of this body are packed all the spaces that provide service to the house.

The main facade of the house is almost blind, the southwest forced the decision to dispense with futile since in southeastern Mexico the incidence of the sun in the living spaces in this direction may be uninhabitable.

The Wolf House

The Wolf is at Casadel Cuautitán Izcalli, near the Lago de Guadalupe, where the urban area of Mexico City begins to disappear.

The house is introspective, where only a balcony overlooking from the master bedroom to see the lake. The rest is a set of blocks contained in the main box formed by the boundary walls. Two solid cubes floating on the top floor on three transparent cubes. The solid cubes protect the privacy of the rooms, which are illuminated by subtle openings in the ceiling joists and walls, and small vertical bars in the east facade.

Glass cubes house the public areas, lobby, kitchen, dining room and a double-height main hall, is where more transparency is noted that combines the pure language of the materials of the Case Study Houses of California with the spatial raumplan Adolf Loos, the flow continues down the stairs and a couple of light bridges that connect the hubs together. In turn, the cubes are divided by a reflecting pool in the basement that leads to the feeling that the area more transparent, the room is in a permanent state of flotation.

Silver Drop Auditorium

In the city of Pachuca, State of Hidalgo , the project by the architects Jaime Varon, Abraham Metta Metta and signing Alex Migdal Architects, is one of the main elements of this great whole, is situated at the south end of the Cultural Park and given its position within the complex, acts as the visual culmination of this great “sea of colors.” Hence, the idea of reflecting the square wall through a large deck reflective mirror glass mullions, ready to 25 meters high with an overhang at both ends of almost 40 meters.

This building it uproots a stone podium, where one of the main objectives is the first point to observe the mural. His curtain or backrest element is represented by a stone that holds the stage, trasescenario and props.

The construction of this auditorium is performed in a time of 11 months. The construction system was mostly based precast concrete and steel eficientaron time of completion of the work. We used about 1500 tons of steel armor among which over 40 meters long cantilever, plus various precast elements
